Exploring Chiang Mai: Your Guide to Getting Around

Navigating around Chiang Mai city is easy thanks to its compact layout and variety of transportation options. Walking is one of the best ways to explore the Old City where you will find most of the popular landmarks such as Wat Chedi Luang and Tha Phae Gate.

A more relaxed way to see all the tourist spots is to hire one of the local tuk-tuk tours on offer from local vendors in the surrounding streets. You will see them holding up their advertising boards showing the popular attractions.

For longer distances hop on a red Songthaew. Simply flag one down, tell the driver your destination, and pay the flat fare or negotiate for private trips outside the city center. One of the most popular places for tourists and locals to see outside of Chiang Mai city is Wat Doi Suthep. See the article for more information on how to get to this temple.

If you prefer private transport, ride-hailing apps like Grab are widely available and provide a comfortable and convenient way to get around. Alternatively, renting a motorbike or bicycle gives you the freedom to explore the city.
